Child Find

Child Find provides assistance in the location, identification, evaluation, and initiation of appropriate education or other needed services to all children and youth, zero to twenty-one years of age who have or are at risk of developing special or unique needs. Primary emphasis is on children zero to five years of age. Kindergarten to twenty-one year olds who are not being served in public school are also included in the target population.   • Assist with the creation of public awareness of child find services;
  • Help hard-to-reach populations and potential referral sources to know about child find services;
  • Serve as a central point of information by receiving referrals, providing information, and directing inquiries to appropriate providers;
  • Assist with screening children and youth who may need formal education;
  • Assist appropriate service providers with evaluations, through coordination, brokering, training, and support; and
  • Facilitate service planning and initiation through tracking children and coordinating services as children progress through the continuum from identification to placement so that children in need of services are located, screened, evaluated, and provided appropriate educational services without delays in the service system.
