Reading Rocks!

Mrs. Kelly Owen kept reading class very fun and interesting this summer. The students read "Josie and the Hurricane" and charted Tropical Storm Arlene. They studied the different kinds of coral and shells. The students were able to identify items they found along the shore on our field trips. They studied vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. Keep reading this summer, and be ready for school.

Totally Technology!
Mrs. Rachel Jackson had each student prepare his or her own Power Point on the sea creature of his or her choosing. They did the research and imported pictures. The students also published their own books around this information. They studied technology vocabulary and also worked with Microsoft Word.

Field Days
Poplar Springs, Bethlehem and Bonifay Middle WINGS kids got together to have field days at HCHS. The activities included fishing, tennis, volleyball, kickball, softball, and football. The students had a wonderful, but hot time.

Strategies That Work
Reading strategies for developing readers were implemented by Mrs. Amber Dunn. After the initial assessments, she assisted students in developing skills in reading, such as vocabulary building and increased comprehension. Mrs. Dunn reminds parents to read to and with their children at home, no matter what their age.

Sports
New tennis equipment has helped some students realize they have a talent for tennis. USA Tennis and Tennis Florida supplied racquets, balls, nets and training for our program. Stephanie Pippin had the students’ hearts pumping with dodge ball, hockey, tennis and kickball. Capture the flag and relay races allowed for some friendly competition between the students.
