In addition to providing education news highlights, this show features a one-on-one interview with Florida Community Colleges Chancellor Dr. Will Holcombe who shares his experiences as an educator and talks about the important role that Florida's Community Colleges play in preparing students for college beginning as early as middle school. Highlights include the College Reach Out Program, Community College Month, and the Go Higher-Get Accepted campaign. In addition, host Nicole Flesvig explores the benefits of the College Reach Out Program in an interview with students and staff from Tallahassee Community College.   Video Available Closed Captioned

In addition to providing education news highlights, this show features a one-on-one interview with Florida Education Commissioner Eric Smith. Dr. Smith shares his experiences as a classroom teacher and talks about his vision for Florida's students and teachers. In addition, host Nicole Flesvig visits Palm Beach County to speak with Palm Beach County National Board Certified Teachers, Sheri Predmore and Joann Parizek, about a unique program they have implemented to assist new and early career teachers in preparing for the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations.   Video Available Closed Captioned

This show focuses on Florida Teacher Certification and the online resources available to assist you in becoming certified or recertified in Florida. The show also focuses on school safety with a visit to Collier County to learn about the outstanding partnership between the Collier County Sheriff's Office and the school district, partnering Youth Relations Deputies with teachers in every school to teach a safety and prevention curriculum at all grade levels. In addition, Gadsden County teacher-turned-author, Betty James, joins us again to discuss her new book and the former Gadsden County student who inspired it. This special 1 hour episode of "Teacher Talk: An Inside Look at Florida Education" highlights the Florida Department of Education-Macy's Teacher of the Year Program, a recognition program honoring outstanding Florida teachers from school districts statewide. The program focuses on the history of the program and the Florida Department of Education's partnership with Macy's, the major sponsor of the program. This special show also highlights additional ways in which Florida recognizes outstanding teachers.   Video Available Closed Captioned


  Teacher Talk: An Inside Look at Florida Education - Show 4
Show 4 places the spotlight on innovative K -12 programs with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and math at all grade levels.  In depth discussions feature Florida State University’s Family Science Night, directed by FSU Education Professor Dr. Cindee Lundeen.  The program focuses on bringing science education to elementary school children through hands-on learning experiences created by future teachers in the Florida State University education program and assists schools in reaching out to families in order to encourage parental and family involvement.  Host Nicole Flesvig also speaks with Coveta Grant, magnet program coordinator at Sealey Elementary School in Tallahassee, a math and science magnet school which has partnered with Florida State University to bring Family Science Night to students and families in Leon County.  In addition, “Teacher Talk” visits the Challenger Learning Center, owned by the Florida A&M and Florida State University School of Engineering, to talk with resident teachers Kathy Safford-Osborne and Susan Borland as well as 2007 Leon County teacher of the Year, Jan Graham, about the Leon County schools partnership with the Challenger Center and how reading and language arts is incorporated into an interactive simulated space mission experienced by her Cobb Middle School students.   Video Available Closed Captioned


  Teacher Talk: An Inside Look at Florida Education - Show 3 An Inside Look at Florida Education covers Florida education news and releases more results from a recent online Florida teacher survey. Host, Nicole Flesvig also speaks with Dr. Connie Graunke to explore academic and career planning tools available for middle and high school students from FACTS.org, Florida's online student advising system. In addition, Teacher Talk visits Martin County High School to speak with Marshall Skinner, director of the district's career and technical education programs about the innovative career academies and signature programs offered there in Teacher Talk's first all- student-produced segment.   Teacher Talk: An Inside Look at Florida Education - Show 2 In the first half of the program Nicole Flesvig, teacher liaison with the Florida Department of Education, talks with 2005 Duval County Teacher of the Year, Chip Leonard, and high school student Kelley Finn to discuss the Florida Department of Education's Major Areas of Interest Initiative. The second half spotlights the 2007 Florida Teacher of the Year, Conney Dahn. Conney talks about her experiences as a teacher of cognitively disabled children and her vision for educational programs leading to jobs and independence for her students.   Video Available Closed Captioned


  Teacher Talk: An Inside Look at Florida Education - Show 1 In this program Nicole Flesvig, teacher liaison with the Florida Department of Education, spotlights Betty James. Mrs. James, a reading coach and author, will discuss her book "Dean Mitchell, The Artist: An Ordinary Man With An Extraordinary Gift". The show will also feature Superintendent Reginald James of Gadsden county, who discusses some of the innovative programs in place in Gadsden County. And, "Taking the Stress out of FCAT Preparation" - where teachers can find FCAT related resources on the web.   Video Available Closed Captioned
