PAEC Board of Directors Announces Executive Director
John T. Selover was recently appointed by the Board of Directors as Executive Director of the Panhandle Area Educational Consortium.

Calhoun County Superintendent Ralph Yoder and PAEC’s Dr. Maria Pouncey chosen as participants in Leadership Florida’s Year-Long Forum Series
Finding the path to vault Florida’s K-12 public schools to national prominence is the central goal for Leadership Florida’s inaugural statewide class of “Leadership in Education” participants. The 34-member class includes accomplished superintendents, school board members, principals, teachers, state education department professionals, education foundation representatives, association leaders, business partners and other public officials. Over the course of eight months, the class will intensively focus on critical education issues and challenges in four rigorous program sessions. Calhoun County Superintendent Ralph Yoder and Dr. Maria Pouncey, Instructional Services Administrator at PAEC, were among those chosen to participate.

PAEC- FLVS Off to a GREAT START
The PAEC-FLVS Franchise is off to a great start this school year and has added additional districts. The program is currently serving Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Liberty, Taylor, Wakulla, and Washington counties. During the 2014-15 school year, 745 students completed courses. So far this year, there have been 278 completions, 631 Active, and 149 classrooms assigned.

PAEC Cooperative State Purchasing Adds New Vendors for School Districts
New vendor/partners were added to the growing list of pre-bid contracts for goods and services that are available for school districts across Florida.

PAEC Risk Management Distributes Lightning Detectors to Coaches
Florida is one of the nation’s most dangerous states when it comes to lightning averaging 25.3 strikes per square mile each year, according to the Live Science website. That accounts for nearly 1.45 million strikes per year. In the past ten years, the state has recorded over 62 deaths from strikes and countess other injuries.

PAEC Launches New Resource for Guidance Counselors
The Panhandle Area Educational Consortium and FloridaLearns Foundation joined with FDLRS PAEC and SEDNET 2A to host the first of what may become an annual “Convening for Secondary School Guidance Counselors.”

Sexual Violence Prevention Programs Launched in Calhoun County High Schools
PAEC, in partnership with the Florida Center for Prevention Research at Florida State University and the Calhoun County School District, was awarded the Sexual Violence Prevention Program Grant from the Florida Department of Health. The grant will support implementation of the Green Dot High School Curriculum in Altha and Blountstown high schools.
