Meet PAEC's New Administrator for Instructional Services
The PAEC Horizon is proud to announce the promotion of Dr. Maria Pouncey to PAEC’s new Administrator of Instructional Services. Dr. Pouncey comes to this position with over two decades of experience at PAEC serving small rural school districts, the last seven of which she served as the migrant coordinator of the PAEC Migrant Education Program for 18 school districts.
The 15th of 16 children, and the only one to graduate, she understands the dilemmas of families trying to survive and the importance of pursuing an education. She was born in the state of Texas, but has called Florida her home for the past 30 years. Ms. Pouncey graduated from St. Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Masters of Science in Special Education from Nova University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix. Dr. Pouncey has been awarded district, state, national, and international awards for her work with migrant students and families, recognized in the book Emerging Women by Julie Keene and Iona Jenson, and most recently recognized by Volunteer Florida with the Champion of Service Award presented to her by Governor Rick Scott. Dr. Pouncey has also been selected as the 2012-2013 Administrator of the Year for Migrant Education by the Florida Department of Education.
A firm believer in being involved in her community she is an active board member of the College Reach Out Program, Big Bend Area Health Education Center, Girl Scouts of the Florida Big Bend, Early Learning Coalition and Catholic Charities. She believes in supporting agencies that provide a “hand up rather than a hand out.” Dr. Pouncey is blessed to be a wife of 30 years, and mother of two – both graduates of FSU, as well as her pride and joy – her two grandchildren, Joshua and Isabela.
