PAEC Launches New Resource for Guidance Counselors
This inaugural event brought more than 70 secondary school guidance counselors and student services directors, ranging from Suwannee to Okaloosa Counties, together for a full day of learning. The dayís topics included an update on the statutory requirements established in House Bill 7069, FERPA and maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in electronic communications. Other topics included the FSU CARE program, mental health first aid, successful transition and the differences among ELL, Title III/Migrant, and Homeless.
A similar event focused on professional learning needs for elementary school guidance counselors and a financial aid seminar for high school guidance counselors are in the planning stages and will occur later in the academic year.
With PAECís commitment to offer expanded services to our school guidance counselors, a group and website was launched in September. The groupís name is The Panhandle School Guidance Counselor Network and the web address for groupís website is http://panhandleguidancecounselor.paec.org/.
Handouts from the meeting will be posted on the website. Additionally, PAEC will actively seek resources that will benefit counselors and update the page and resources as they become available.
