Train to Lead a Success
PAEC determines the effectiveness of its annual leadership conference using two methods. Both measures indicate Train to Lead was a resounding success.

Legislators Recognized at Conference
The 2005-2006 Florida legislative session was the best in recent memory for education. PAEC's Board of Directors thanked legislators for their hard work at Train to Lead.

Three PAEC Districts are Master Boards
Taylor County School Superintendent Oscar Howard, left, and board member Brenda Carlton, center, receive Master Board recognition from Sandi Nicholson, Hernando County School Board.
Gadsden, Taylor and Washington county school districts were recipients of master board designations awarded recently by the Florida School Boards Association.

PAEC Member Districts Close Gaps
Small and rural districts make a strong showing on the DOE's list of Top 10 districts closing the achievement gap between third and 10th grade minority students and their white counterparts.

BSI Improves Communication to Better Serve Districts
PAEC Supplemental Services Program Coordinator Sharon Mitchell, right, chats with DOE Region 1 Facilitator Robin Richards following the meeting.
Tuesday’s School Improvement Meeting in Chipley demonstrated the Bureau of School Improvement’s commitment to enhancing communication and efficiency statewide. About the changes, Regional Facilitator Robin Richards said, “They help us be proactive rather than reactive.”

ESE Learning Communities, Action Research
Educators of exceptional students were given free access to valuable, flexible adaptive software and equipment at two Summer IntelliTools institutes coordinated by FDLRS/PAEC. The catch? The educators must agree to spearhead ESE learning communities at their schools and conduct action research.

A Sad Note
It is with heavy hearts that PAEC announces that 2nd Lt. John Shaw Vaughn, nephew of Leewood Shaw, migrant program data manager, was killed in action in Iraq. The officer was mentioned in the Native Son Sends Flag article May 10, 2006.
