FCEC recognizes Diane Johnson for her many years of service

During Ms. Johnson's employment with FDLRS (1976-2006), she served in various leadership positions with the Council for Exceptional Children, a nonprofit international professional organization for special educators and students.

She served as president of the FCEC in 1985-86, as chairperson of the Communications and Children's Advocacy Network (CAN) and is currently serving as adviser on the executive board of FCEC and as vice president of the Pioneer Division and president of the CEES Division of the FCEC.

In 1995-96, she was president of the National Council for Exceptional Children.

In Nov. 2007, Ms. Johnson retired from the Leon County School District after more than 30 years of service.

When asked what retirement means to her, Ms. Johnson replied, "It appears that the retirement was from my day job, and that I will have plenty to do with the volunteer efforts."

June Logue, FCEC president and FDLRS parent services resource specialist commented, "Diane is a tireless advocate for special needs children, their families and the education professionals who serve them. Her dedication and enthusiasm are contagious to all board members and her knowledge and expertise are priceless."

The Florida Council for Exceptional Children will hold its annual conference, "Under the Big Top with FCEC," at the Sarasota Hyatt, Oct. 23-25, 2008.
