Teacher time is a rare commodity these days, and finding resources to help language arts teachers meet the challenges of the classroom in a timely manner is a very good thing. This webpage is an attempt to help meet those challenges and to perhaps save a few steps for teachers in the process. Here you will find links to information on the standards that teachers must prepare their students to meet as well as standards they might want to consider for their own professional development. You will find some resources that might prove helpful as well as some places to look for help with content. Lesson plans abound on the web, and you will find some sites that have proven rich for language arts teachers. Additionally you will find some suggestions for reading that will enhance your professional life and links to professionals associations that might assist you as you build your network with other professionals.
Standards
http://etc.usf.edu/flstandards/la/index.html This site lists all the Sunshine State Standards, and by clicking on the appropriate language arts grade area, one can view the specific standards expected to be learned.
http://www.floridastandards.org/In_the_Works.aspx At this site one may download the curriculum planning tool which also contains the Sunshine State Standards and assists teachers in planning lessons based on these standards.
http://www.mcrel.org/standards-benchmarks/ MCREL is a fantastic resource for teachers and contains not only information on standards but also lesson plans and other resources that teachers will find most helpful.
http://school.discovery.com/schrockguide/arts/artlit.html This site links to many excellent places for information. Here is where I go to download the Fry Readability Chart for determining how difficult a book is to read. There is so much here that any language arts teacher should make Kathy Schrock their new best friend.
