Course Title: No Child Left Behind Basics for Teachers & Principals

Course Requirements: Video Program and Assessment

Course Description: The course addresses the basic premises of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Law including the Highly Qualified requirements for teachers and the impact of the legislation on schools and districts. Other topics presented focus on the HOUSSE requirement for subject area teachers. Helpful documents are available to assist participants in understanding the law from the perspectives of both parents and teachers.

Course Objectives:
Participants will gain knowledge about:
1.      The basic premises of the NCLB Act of 2001
2.      The history behind the NCLB Act
3.      The goals of NCLB
4.      The meaning of Adequate Yearly Progress

Course Assessment:
A certificate of completion will be awarded to participants who successfully complete the online assessment after viewing the video program.

Professional Development Points:   2
Additional points may be earned through completion of follow-up activities.

Additional Helps: Follow-up activities and resources
It is recommended that participants in the video course complete follow-up activities to deepen their knowledge and skills. When these activities are completed in accordance with local staff development guidelines, participants may be able to earn additional professional development credit.
