Course Title: Looking at Vocabulary
Course Requirements: Video Program and Assessment
Course Description: Through the direct instructional mode, three major parts of vocabulary instruction are demonstrated.
Course Objectives:
Participants will gain awareness level knowledge about:
1. Vocabulary as a component of reading instruction
2. Research-based vocabulary-building strategies
3. Direct and indirect methods of vocabulary instruction
4. Using context to get clues to meaning
Course Assessment:
A certificate of completion will be awarded to participants who successfully complete the online assessment after viewing the video program.

Professional Development Points: 2
Completing all activities provided would take approximately 10 hours. Therefore, it's recommended that 10 professional development points be awarded (2 for watching the video and completing the assessment, 8 for completing all follow-up activities). However, follow-up activities may be further enhanced for additional professional development credit. This is a local option.

It is recommended that participants in the video course complete follow-up activities to deepen their knowledge and skills. When these activities are completed in accordance with local staff development guidelines, participants may be able to earn additional professional development credit. Contact your local staff development office for determining how you might receive credit for completing the video program and additional credit for completing follow-up activities.
