Course Title: Building Fluency: Do It Well & Do It Right
Course Requirements: Video Program and Assessment
Course Description: In this course, participants will learn to understand the role of fluency in word recognition, oral reading, silent reading, and comprehension of written discourse. Participants will identify examples of text at a student's frustration, instructional, and independent reading level. Teachers will understand reading fluency from several perspectives: stages of normal reading development, intrinsic characteristics of some reading disorders, and consequences of practice and instruction.
Course Objectives:
1. Understand the role of fluency in word recognition, oral
reading, silent reading, and comprehension
2. Define and identify examples of text at a student's frustration,
instructional and independent reading
levels
3. Understand the stages of reading development and the
consequences of practice and instruction
Course Assessment:
A certificate of completion will be awarded to participants who successfully complete the online assessment after viewing the video program.
