I was born in Jacksonville, FL and moved to Chipley
when I was is the sixth grade and attended KMS for one year. I graduated from Chipley High School
in 1972 and Florida State University in 1977 with a master’s degree in Speech Pathology. I began my
career in the school system in Pensacola, FL and remained there for seventeen years, also working
in the schools at Santa Rosa County. I moved back to Chipley in 1994, with my husband and son,
working as a Speech Pathologist in skilled nursing facilities. Two years later I accepted a position
with the Washington County School Board and divided my speech therapy time between Kate Smith and
Vernon Elementary.
I am presently full-time at Kate Smith and enjoy working with Kindergarten through fourth grade
students. As a Speech Pathologist, I work with children who are having difficulty in the classroom
due to articulation, language, voice and stuttering disorders. I use a variety of techniques to help
these students compensate and/or overcome their difficulties, which helps to increase their self-esteem.
I enjoy helping children become better communicators socially and academically and look for ways to
encourage this school wide. As anchor/producer of “Good Morning KMS” I have the opportunity to help
all students “perform” and feel good about themselves. I am fortunate to have a job that I love and
one that can positively impact so many children! |
