The closed-circuit television show, “Good Morning, KMS”, has been a long-standing tradition at Kate M. Smith Elementary School.

The entire school tunes in at the beginning of each day to a ten minute broadcast consisting of the pledge to the flag, a moment of silent meditation and the school news of the day.

Through the rotation of fourth grade classes, all fourth grade students are given the opportunity, during the school year, to plan and broadcast the show. Some of the students prefer to operate the camera and sound system while others enjoy acting out skits or making announcements.

A variety of news is presented including character trait education, school rules and “vocabulary word of the day”.

All students in the school are invited to appear on the show when they are celebrating a birthday or have something special to show or tell about.

Mrs. Moss, a speech pathologist at KMS, oversees the production each day and encourages the students to organize and create entertaining and appropriate school-wide broadcasts.

The morning show is an educational adventure for all students and provides an opportunity to work together and share in a very rewarding and fun experience. Presenting information and responding spontaneously in front of an audience are valuable life-skills being learned at a young age on the KMS morning show. There is never a dull moment on the show and often a laugh or two to get your day started on a happy note!
